Mojang, the production studio behind the very popular Minecraft, holds a conference almost every year to announce the latest updates and new features for Minecraft. The name of the conference is Minecon. Minecon 2015, the first Minecon since Microsoft’s $2.5B acquisition of Mojang and Minecraft was this week. They had a few big announcements.
They announced the new Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta. The Windows 10 Edition Beta is based off the Minecraft Pocket Edition but has many cool extras. On the Windows 10 Edition Beta you can play with up to 7 friends and will work with touch, keyboard, and controller. It will also support many of the great features from the Xbox One like the GameDVR. The Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will be available on the Windows 10 Store starting July 29th and is free for existing Minecraft PC gamers. Others will have to pay the $10 price to get into the beta and will continue to have the game after the beta is over. Mojang also announced dual-wielding. The new dual-wielding feature allows players to hold an item in their left and right hands. They also announced that the End is going to become more expansive and have more for players to do. Then Mojang along with Telltale Games also announced a story mode. Released in expansions, the story mode is narrative-based game that will be available for the Xbox and PlayStation consoles as well as PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.
Overall, Minecraft is getting a lot of great updates and new features. The Windows 10 Store is finally getting its own Minecraft game and a story mode is coming as well. Mojang has been working to give everyone a better Minecraft.
