On the last day of April, Elon Musk and his electric car company announced a new product. But it wasn’t a car, it was a solar-powered home battery. Named the Powerwall, it is not only a back-up in power outages, it is a permanent electricity source for your home.
The Powerwall is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for your home that charges during the day, through solar power, and then stores the electricity for the morning and evening. The Powerwall is great for power outages because it can give you a constant stream of electricity during those times. Also, the Powerwall cuts down on your power bills because it doesn’t have different costs at different times such as raising prices in peak times. The Powerwall is also really powerful, you can either buy 10 kWh weekly battery for $3,500 or a 7 kWh daily battery for $3,000. If you need more power you can connect up to 9 batteries together. The Powerwall comes with a 10 year warranty and can be installed indoors or outdoors. The Tesla Powerwall looks pretty good not like the usual ugly home batteries.
Overall, the Tesla Powerwall is a functional, relatively affordable home battery. It can be pre-ordered now but, only comes out this summer.
